If you refused to allow Cynthia and Adalbert to take the megascope at the end of The Secrets of Loc Muinne:
Seek and ye shall find. And the witcher did just that. Dearhenna's Grimoire was encrypted (ah, those sorcerers!), but its value was clear at a glance. Our hero had no idea how to use the knowledge recorded in its yellowed pages, so he thought he might sell it to a mage with a penchant for history. But he also considered keeping it as a memento of his adventure of the sewers beneath Loc Muinne.
If you choose not to sell it to Bras της Ban Ard initially:
The witcher decided against selling the grimoire to Brass (sic) της Ban Ard. Later, every time he felt its weight during a climb or happened on it while rummaging through his satchel, he could not help thinking of it as ballast and considered paying Brass another visit.
Geralt did not know how to use the Grimoire and the huge tome merely weighed him down. Unwilling to drag it around his satchel, the witcher decided to sell. In the end he chose gold for its basic advantage: no one ever had any problem reading the symbols minted on coins.
If you asked to use the megascope at the end of The Secrets of Loc Muinne:
Geralt found multiple excerpts from Dearhenna's journal in the cellars of Loc Muinne. In one, the sorcerer mentioned a grimoire he penned. Given its authors genius, the scholarly tome would likely be very valuble. Keeping an eye out for it was a smart idea without question. Well, Cynthia thought so too. The sorceress proved craftier than our hero and outmanoeuvred him. Dearhenna's masterpiece landed in Nilfgaardian hands.

Notes[ | ]

On the Xbox 360 version, selling the grimoire to Bras της Ban Ard results in the quest being completed but nets you no experience or orens, despite the fact that Bras says he'll pay you well.
