Aldert Geert is an Oxenfurt scholar whom Geralt meets at the tavern in White Orchard. He is an Assistant Professor of Contemporary History at Oxenfurt Academy and teaches the witcher the game of Gwent.
Aldert Geert travelled from Oxenfurt to the war-torn regions of the Northern Kingdoms in order to see the Nilfgaardian invasion with his own eyes, and chronicle it in what he hoped would be his magnum opus. He stayed in White Orchard at the same time that Geralt was in the region looking for Yennefer. After Geralt's departure for Vizima, the scholar travelled to Velen, which would serve to be his last destination, as he was hanged from the Hanged Man's Tree shortly after his arrival.
Geralt may later find the scholar's body hanging from the Tree, missing its boots, as well as his unfinished book lying nearby.
