Darn Rowan is a fortress in the duchy of Rowan in the hinterlands of Nilfgaard. The keep was sometimes used to house political prisoners. When "Cirilla of Cintra" came to Nilfgaard, she was given the title of Princess of Darn Rowan and sent there by Emhyr var Emreis's order.
In Time of Contempt, Emperor Emhyr var Emreis endowed "Cirilla" with the title of "Duchess of Rowan and Ymlac" and lady of of the castle of Darn Rowan.
The castle is also the site of several scenes in Chrzest Ognia ("Baptism of Fire"), Wieża Jaskółki ("Tower of Swallows") and Pani jeziora ("The Lady of the Lake").
