Appearance(s)

In the area of dragon lore, the least is known about rock dragons. From the name, we can deduce that they probably lived in mountainous or rocky areas. It is suspected that they were wiped out long before the Saga began, possibly due to over-hunting.

In the short story "A Grain of Truth", Geralt notices a wall full of hunting trophies in Nivellen's dining room. The most impressive among them is the mounted head of a rock dragon which was apparently killed by Nivellen's grandfather. It might have been the last of its kind.

Given that rock dragons were not mentioned alongside other dragon types in The Bounds of Reason, we could speculate that they are somehow "lesser", or not "true" dragons like green or red ones.

In Wiedźmin: Gra Wyobraźni[ | ]

Rare species of dragon which is found in dry, rocky areas and stony plains. Their coloring resembles that of black dragons, but their bodies are smaller. These creatures do not belch anything, fighting only in a way that can be called "conventional". They can reach a length of 5 meters.

Notes[ | ]

  • Remarking rock dragon's affiliation with stones and rocks, its D&D counterpart may be grey dragon.
