- Built centuries ago to serve as the home keep for the kings of Skellige. In practice, however, each ruler preferred to keep to his clan's seat, and Kaer Almhult was left unused. Eventually the decision was made to turn it into a prison, and today the fortress is a crumbling ruin.

- Geralt can find a body of a halfling in a "sky cell" on Kaer Almhult looking very much like Tyrion Lannister, as portrayed by Peter Dinklage in the Game of Thrones series, who happened to be in a similar situation.
