Although the Nilfgaardian Empire is the largest country on the continent, its Emperor Emhyr var Emreis must concede that the Nilfgaardian Secret Service, or Intelligence Service, is only the second-largest intelligence agency, next to the renowned and efficient Redanian Secret Service.
The Nilfgaardian Secret Service engaged in more than just military intelligence, and was particularly active during the Northern Wars. Emhyr also assigned his intelligence service to search for Ciri and later for the traitor, Vilgefortz of Roggeveen.
Vattier de Rideaux and his network of agents were handed a crushing defeat orchestrated by Sigismund Dijkstra at the beginning of the Second War with Nilfgaard.
