Was Marietta Loredo the escaped patient?[]
During Gridley and Rupert's confession they refer to a female patient who survived the fire and was used by their unit commander as a concubine, that is, until she slit his throat and escaped with his treasure map. In fact, the primary reason they returned was to search for her and the map. If Geralt tries to turn them over to Bernard Loredo they actually fall into the hands of Marietta Loredo who looks forward to discussing "old times" with them. Elsewhere in Chapter 1, Loredo's mother is described as insane and the locals wonder where she got the wealth from to found the settlement. --Phiont 14:00, May 24, 2011 (UTC)
Disagreement[]
For some reason, the quest log and what is actually said/done in the game differ considerably. I can only assume this quest was redesigned at one point and one of the aspects wasn't updated appropriately.

Hearts and Eyes Confusion[]
The quest gives you the impression that providing pig hearts and eyes instead of nekker hearts and eyes might provide some different outcome, but both are equivalent. Even if you drop all of your nekker parts before entering that phase and opt to purchase the pig parts, it won't matter. The option to go for pig parts is probably just a convenient flavor alternative in case the recently looted nekker parts have been sold off.
The official game guide unintentionally implies that pig parts will trick the spectre differently, but the tricking it refers to is that Geralt tricks the spectre into releasing the curse before the exchange of parts even occurs.
