Thecla is the wise woman of the village below Bald Mountain. A cunning senior, she is accompanied by her young helper Marica.
When Geralt and Ciri arrive at Bald Mountain for the Crones' Sabbath, Thecla evaluates them to determine if they are fit to be allowed into the mountain to meet the Crones. She accepts Ciri straight away, but refuses Geralt. After Geralt refuses to let Ciri go alone, Thecla states that one may appeal her decision by passing a test. She has the witcher retrieve the Defier's oren from a deep pit of water, which he does successfully. Thecla concedes and allows both Geralt and Ciri to go inside the mountain. However, the test proves to be a ruse as gatekeeper Fugas immediately attacks them upon seeing the Defier's oren.
