Merge with Curse Account[]

Hi, this is me from the old wiki. I've been trying to migrate my account, but receiving the following message when I try to log in:

We recently migrated all Witcher Wiki accounts into our Curse central authentication system. However, due to a potential naming conflict you need to manually migrate your account. You can do this by linking an existing Curse.com account or choosing a new username for your Curse.com account. The new username you choose or account username linked will be the name displayed on all Curse Network Wikis.

When I select "Choose New Username" (and enter one) the following message appears:

Sorry, there was a problem merging your account into our central database. Please try again later or contact an administrator for assistance

Sorry for reactivating this old subject. But one of the former users of the Hexer-Wiki is not able to log in to the new Hexer Wiki. For the moment I recommended him to register to curse.com first, then wait 30 min, and later merge his hexer-account with curse. Any other suggestions? Are there known problems with a blank or minus in usernames?
»»Dove«« (talk) 14:32, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
I've not heard much about that whole situation. I see no evidence of any new account with Put Put as part of the name. I think the advice you gave is best. Do you know if this person got as far as being asked to merge information ? Typically, the problem has boiled down to users not understanding the difference between Curse.com and Curse wikis. — Game widow (talk) 14:36, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
I'll try to find it out. thx so far :) »»Dove«« (talk) 15:23, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
One other thing :) The email notification/verification only applies to Curse.com, it is not necessary for accessing/editing the wikis on Gamepedia. — Game widow (talk) 15:25, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi![]

Hi, I hope this new start will be better for all of us. But I have some questions to ask first. First, is there something we should know about the changes, i mean what are the differences between Wikia and Curse Wiki? Also I'd like to know if there is something I can do to help, if there is something incomplete in current wiki. And lastly about a few weeks ago I sent an e-mail to the CDProjekt for the high resolution version of the Witcher 3 logo and other stuff but could not get a reply. Is there something we can do about it? Thanks and keep up the good work. --JPulowski (talk) 18:44, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi and welcome! The main reasons for the move were Wikia's arbitrary censorship of game content (they knew from the start it was a mature game, and had uncensored images on the wiki for years then suddenly decided to just delete without consultation, citing their Terms of Use). There is also the Oasis skin which Wikia uses that unnecessarily restricts article width in favour of their perceived "improvements". Their "feature" creep is ongoing and (at least in my view) totally unwanted. At Curse, we use the Vector skin with very few modification from the original MediaWiki code. The vector skin does not restrict article width (which is of particular use for pages with large tables). Curse also doesn't arbitrarily censor game images. One small downside to being at Curse is that their limit on file sizes is only 2MB, but i feel that this one small setback doesn't make the move less appealing.
For new and improved wiki content, i'm specifically on the lookout for some nice images to use in the quest infoboxes but any and all suggestions are most welcome.
As for CD Projekt, i do have contacts within the company so i'd be happy to try and get a higher resolution logo from Marcin Momot, their community manager. You may also have noticed that CD Projekt endorses this wiki move and has updated their web links to the wiki to reflect this new location. Game widow (talk) 18:51, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, hi there. Hope this place will be nice as well. Because as life showed without proper moderation every player-filled resource turns into pile of garbage. Though I'm still not aware about traffic values. I think wikia-sites in general are more popular than the Curse's. But OK, I've registered here (PS. Could you grant me rights to change my display name? I've tried JohnMiles, but it returned an error, so I've registed this crappy one - John Miles - and now want to change it :) ). BTW, why did they ban you on wikia? - John Miles (talk) 18:47, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Absolutely! and Welcome :) — Game widow (talk) 18:48, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

A note[]

I was surfing Gamepedia and noticed that you have CollapsibleNav enabled as well. I've found that the default arrows with the white pixels removed look a lot better on a dark background. You can find the CSS I used over here. Cheers! Dzylon (talk)

Thanks for the tip :) — Game widow (talk) 21:12, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Bot[]

Hey, how does Widowbot work? I thought the Gamepedia API was incompatible with bots. Can you please tell me what program / script you're using? Thanks, Dzylon (talk)

They fixed the environment so that at least AWB works. There is one error on login, but just click "keep working" (or something similar) and proceed. There's nothing else special. — Game widow (talk) 12:20, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Time Of Contempt released[]

Yay, it's *finally* the 27th of June & Time Of Contempt has been released in UK stores - have you thought about potentially doing a blog to celebrate and let passers by know? Also, on Baptism Of Fire, I think Gollancz are going to confirm Alejandro Colucci's artwork on their website before too long (in fact I think Time Of Contempt could well be the only current edition Gollancz publication for which cover art differs from the Spanish translation) - once something's able to be scanned I'll get onto it; in the meantime I'll see if I can get some time to start quoting again, IchibanOfXintra (talk) 14:56, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

I received my copy on tuesday (woo-hoo!) — Game widow (talk) 15:01, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

BookQuote[]

BookQuote is working nicely (& it's a template I can actually remember how to use without doing my head in :D !) Although - do you have any ideas on - where the quote itself goes in fine - the details of the quote are sometimes being placed half the way across the page? IchibanOfXintra (talk) 22:25, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

If you can give me a particular example, i'll examine it and see what i can do to make it more attractive. — Game widow (talk) 22:27, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
I had some stuff from Blood Of Elves backed up - the Kaer Morhen quotes are the ones which stick out the most ... could it be something to do with the ads running down the side of the page? IchibanOfXintra (talk) 22:36, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
ah right, i keep forgetting about those, seriously, get an ad-blocker .. those ads totally spoil the layout :( — Game widow (talk) 22:38, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
Oh my! i just disabled my ad blocker and wow! that's terrible .. i'll try to come up with some sort of solution — Game widow (talk) 22:41, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks - problem I have is I use Mozilla (who have just updated their regulations to practically embargo AdBlock) - hey ho, it looks like Google Chrome will start to get some business off me then. IchibanOfXintra (talk) 23:41, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
Actually, i use firefox, and adblock plus works just great — Game widow (talk) 01:09, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

I'll try and get some more short stories done while I'm waiting for details about Baptism Of Fire (just waiting for confirmation of coover art really then can take it from there) - though I am taking 2 weeks in Italy so I'll probably do it all at once sometime, IchibanOfXintra (talk) 22:30, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

No rush :) have a great time in Italy ... if you run into Secondchildren, say hi for me! — Game widow (talk) 01:16, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Twitter and Mainpage[]

Maybe this is helping in this subject: https://dev.twitter.com/docs/embedded-timelines#creating ? DiamondDove (talk) 22:08, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks! but apparently the tech team is writing a custom twitter extension for curse wikis. — Game widow (talk) 22:12, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Good to know :) I was afraid I would have to write it myself, haha. DiamondDove (talk) 06:40, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
The new extension is in place. — Game widow (talk) 18:45, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Hehe, I saw it yesterday, and it looks great ^^ thx to the tech team :) DiamondDove (talk) 21:43, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Baptism Of Fire[]

Great news - Baptism of Fire has zero publication or copyright issues - the cover art has also became official and Gollancz have officially cataloged the novel for release on the dates we'd previously known about ((March & July) which means the July date is almost certainly for the second edition release). It's all looking good.

IchibanOfXintra (talk) 17:10, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

I have to admit, I wasn't expecting an announcement of cover art until next week (by which time 'Time Of Contempt' will be released in the US) - also Orion Books are the parent company of Gollancz and, well... it seems don't know what's going on, because they thought the release date was last week. I'll keep an eye on it in any case but I don't foresee it being problematic (I don't think Orion ever know what's going on in fact), IchibanOfXintra (talk) 16:08, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks ever so much! — Game widow (talk) 20:09, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
And now there's been some interesting changes, Orion have pushed for 27th of February - & there's something else to keep our eyes on as well from Golancz & Orion: [1] - there is something in this link which scares me though - Orion have not yet filed for The Tower Of Swallows, and, presumably must be thinking that the Witcher saga is a trilogy - so it might be a while until we get any further after 'Baptism. I will keep my eye on it nonetheless.
Trilogy??? (facepalm) I do hope someone puts them straight. — Game widow (talk) 13:26, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
Okay, latest update includes the e-book confirmation (Kindle & Nook topping the list of course) to come out on the 27th of February - I think we now know that date is secure. Still no news of Tower Of Swallows yet mind - I think they'll announce it after release of at least The Malady in November, but more likely in the new year so as to coincide with Time Of Contempt which will get its 2nd edition released on the 9th of January - it was nice to find out that'll be coming out soon. In other news I'll try and be around a bit more, but I just moved home so it might be hectic for me. Oh yes, still no change on the 'trilogy' random crap - Orion do know that they made the mistake though at least. IchibanOfXintra (talk) 21:03, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Probably the final update on Baptism of Fire before it's out - Gollancz have just taken it into print with the rest of their Feb-Apr releases. And of course 2nd ed.Time Of Contempt is out in the next fortnight. Still looking for Wieza Jaskolki though. IchibanOfXintra (talk) 15:19, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

I just ordered my copy a couple days ago :) — Game widow (talk) 15:32, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
I don't know if you've seen it but Gollancz just can't get their release dates right. Baptism has been pushed back to the 6th of March (though those with Amazon pre-orders will probably still get it early - nice amazon). This is to account for releases of Audio books that have literally came out of nowhere. There's one for each translated book so far & Last Wish, Blood of Elves & Time of Contempt are coming out on the day Baptism should have come out on but we have to wait another week for Baptism itself - which makes me question why this is the reason Orion had Gollancz push it back a week ... weird. Also, although there's still nothing concrete on Wieza Jaskolki yet I've think the reason why we haven't seen anything is because David French's contract has officially ran its course with 'Baptism. IchibanOfXintra (talk) 01:57, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
Sigh .. why oh why is publishing these books in English like pulling teeth ?? i did pre-order through amazon, so fingers crossed! — Game widow (talk) 02:01, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
Because it's gollancz - they focus too much on one thing & forget about everything else going on. Amazon still need to update but Waterstones updated earlier today. If you need to feel better there's a first edition copies of Pani Jeziora on Amazon going for £53 - about £300 cheaper than it should be going for. Happy days when you can make a profit as big as that! IchibanOfXintra (talk) 02:53, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
I may or may not have bought it :) IchibanOfXintra (talk) 03:10, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

True to form, of the 3 audio books supposed to have been released on the 27th only two of them have actually been released. Apparently it was Orion in charge of this release however, not Gollancz themselves. In better news bookstores are starting to receive copies to put on sale from early Monday morning. IchibanOfXintra (talk) 23:24, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the update! I'm looking forward to my copy :) — Game widow (talk) 23:39, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Banned from wikia[]

LOL so they finally banned me too. A moment ago I think, coz I inserted the link to this wiki on my profile. Oh well :D

One question: I've noticed that on Chrome, the italian wiki main page results all scrolled down, with a large black empty space right under the title, and the text of the page at the very bottom of the screen. Is it a bug of wiki, or a bug of chrome? hug

Ah, getting banned on wikia - I had my own problems with Sannse even before we came here so it was 'interesting' when I found it out it was her overlooking everything on wikia. But hey IchibanOfXintra (talk) 00:58, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Welcome to the club! But i'm sorry you ended up getting banned, i find it awfully petty of them. I'll have a look at the italian wiki. — Game widow (talk) 14:26, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Hmmm, i'm not seeing what you describe on the Italian wiki. Do you think you could provide a screenshot ? — Game widow (talk) 14:29, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Coz they removed all. They removed the Witcher Wiki admin wanted banner, the linj on my profile to my curse page and a few other things. I also requested them to remove my name as a contact for users, since I'm not the admin anymore. The italian wikia admin told me that she did for inserting links to external wiki..." you know... for fairness..." she said. LOL I could say something on Wikia staff fairness but... whatever :)

Thank you so much...[]

... for the link to Curse contests. Just sent my info :)

New informations?[]

Are you able to extract some new informations about the gameplay, amount of monsters to expect, state of development etc. out of this interview video? I'm not sure if I have understood everything right. :) DiamondDove (talk) 12:53, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

I'll have a look :) — Game widow (talk) 15:00, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

New infoboxes[]

Hi :) Do you think it would be useful to use the infoboxcharacter template and template page? I could edit it/them or create new for TW3 (and further on for TW2 and 1), as we did it for the other infobox templates? DiamondDove (talk) 14:15, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

I've resisted them for a long time, but maybe it's time :D — Game widow (talk) 14:37, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Hehe, I understand you ^^ So I'll start playing around with it a bit. ;) DiamondDove (talk) 17:23, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Now i remember one of the issues with character and location infoboxes: we might need one for books only, in addition to one for each of the games. — Game widow (talk) 11:45, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Ah, okay. I've created already some character boxes for the games (C1, C2, C3) and I re-styled the one for game locations (L1). So we need still "L2"YesY and "L3"YesY, also a character infobox for the books (CB)YesY and a infobox for locations in the books (LB) YesY? Did I understand that correctly? :) »»Dove«« (talk) 13:31, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Indeed you have :) and thanks! — Game widow (talk) 13:32, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

@Game widow: Maybe you want to have a look at some of my » new color schemes? One of them I want to use for the book infoboxes. I'd prefer eggshell (~parchment?) or something bluish, although the other ones also look not bad. What's your favorite? »»Dove«« (talk) 20:41, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

At a glance, i like #060200, #9F7B64 - zinnwaldite2 and the forest scheme ... not sure which of those two i prefer. What about you ? — Game widow (talk) 20:43, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
My choice went to brown/zinnwaldite with white text (as we rather don't have any green in the background image or any other style parts here). New template see above (YesY) + a draft for books ("draft", because I think there have to be added still some personal details). :) »»Dove«« (talk) 14:41, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
Looks awesome :) As for more information on the books, perhaps a list of languages into which they have been translated (and possibly a link to the associated wikis -- on Curse, of course -- for those languages where we do have wikis) — Game widow (talk) 14:44, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

I added the translations section for the books, but something seems to be wrong with the interwiki linking. Can you check this, please? :) »»Dove«« (talk) 17:04, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

This issue is that i have not added the domain names to the list of prefixes (i will), but right now you need to just use the language code (de:, it:, pl: and fr:) — Game widow (talk) 17:06, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
I tried the language codes before, but this created interlanguage links and hid these links in the infobox. No matter, now the interwiki link is working correctly. :) With the translation section I'm not very satisfied, we have to improve this a bit. »»Dove«« (talk) 18:20, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
it's just format, my dear :) Just like making links to categories. you need to preface the language code with a colon if you don't want it to be an actual inter-language link. For example: Der letzte Wunsch gives Der letzte Wunsch.
Yes, now I remeber it (wall) lol. thx :) »»Dove«« (talk) 21:37, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

I created two further infoboxes for locations, but imho we have to change the contents again (all inhabitants?, sort sequence? POIs? Level=chapter? etc.). As you can see, the L1 and L2 differs a bit - I rearranged the images. Please tell me, what should stay, what should be changed, what is too much, what too less etc. (we can also skype later) :) »»Dove«« (talk) 10:39, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

For the character infobox, i'm quite happy with it. My only suggested change would be to change "Appears in these books" to simply "Appearances". For the location infoboxes, i think we are trying to squeeze in too much information again. I prefer only one image (so, the map could be later in the article) and i'm not sure about the list of inhabitants ... that could easily get out of hand and deciding which inhabitants to include or exclude could be difficult. — Game widow (talk) 13:56, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
I think the improvements i see so far are great. Perhaps it's just my own personal bias, but i think simpler infoboxes are better :) — Game widow (talk) 17:42, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
Agree :) And the last Infobox is created. So I'll transfer these templates to the Hexer-Wiki.
If anyone has other ideas for the infoboxes he/she can say it any time. ^^ »»Dove«« (talk) 19:30, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
Awesome! and Thank-you!! — Game widow (talk) 19:31, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
My pleasure ^^ First page with the new infobox: Oxenfurt ;) »»Dove«« (talk) 20:16, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
Liking it! :) — Game widow (talk) 20:38, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

I finished the infobox for books, looks simpler now and more clear, I guess. You may want to have a look at >> it? »»Dove«« (talk) 11:38, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Once again, great job! — Game widow (talk) 12:15, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

I guess, you are busied with this f*** bot. But Miki suggested a new infobox template and I would like to know, what do you think about that before I start to "program" it. :)

Emhyr and Duny page[]

Just noticed that we have two different pages for the same character, one is Duny and one is Emhyr var Emreis. Shoudl they stay separated or being merged in one? Secondchildren (talk) 22:02, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

I used to have them on one page and a bunch of contributors complained that it was spoilers. So i'm torn. I think they should be one page, but we seem to have a significant number of users who feel that's bad. — Game widow (talk) 22:03, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
But Duny's real ID section stays under the spoiler tag, so I don't see the problem. It's much more confusing this way, but... oh well Secondchildren (talk) 22:07, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
It's similar with Saskia and Saesenthessis. Well, she has two "forms", but that's all the difference. Or another example: the King of the Wild Hunt and Eredin.
If you put both "personalities/identities" together, I don't know... These cases are imho not compareable with, for instance Reynart de Bois-Fresnes, the Checkerboard knight, what was only a pseudonym when he was fighting icognito.
My two cents :) »»Dove«« (talk) 22:34, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Well if contributors complaints about spoilers and two ID in one, well I have nothing to say. I am just one person, this wiki should be user friendly so... But I'd put Saskia and Saesenthessis together, since they're the same person :) Secondchildren (talk) 23:03, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Hmmm ... i do think there are differences in some circumstances: in particular Duny and Saskia. For both, their second identity is revealed relatively late in the story. For Duny it's (iirc) in the very last novel in the witcher series -- still a long way from being translated to english, and for Saskia, it's late in the game. So for those two, i'm more or less OK with having separate pages (though i could still be convinced otherwise). For simple aliases, i don't see any reason for more than one page, other than redirections pointing to the main character page. — Game widow (talk) 11:43, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Duny, Saskia and Eredin (see "Lady of the Lake")? »»Dove«« (talk) 13:37, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Right you are :) — Game widow (talk) 13:38, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Multi-column[]

Hi ho ^^ suggestion: Instead of putting a lot of text lines in tables better using CSS? like

<div style="-moz-column-count: 2; -webkit-column-count: 2; column-count: 2;">

»»Dove«« (talk) 21:06, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Example with 3 columns:
 • asdf afdsf safdfsdfasdf
 • asdfa dafsdfa
 • sdf afasd
 • asdf adfadfads
 • asdfasdgfadsfasdg sagasdfasdf
 • asdfasdf asdfa
 • asdfasdf
 • asdfadf adfadfafsd
»»Dove«« (talk) 13:20, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Does that work for all browsers ? If so, then great — Game widow (talk) 15:00, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Probably yes, that's why I set 3 options. Checked with IE 10.09, Opera 12.16 and Firefox 24.0, in all three it runs fine. »»Dove«« (talk) 19:29, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
I had a quick peek with chrome and safari and it looks ok those as well — Game widow (talk) 19:35, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Armor overhaul[]

Hi Game widow :) I think we have to do an overhaul for the armors as you already did for the swords. There are some armors in the xml-files (v3.4) that don't exists in the wiki yet, i.e. "Armor of Erlenwald". Some of them may not appear in the game, some do (but not their diagram). What is your opinion? »»Dove«« (talk) 07:35, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

I do have those stats ... and i was contemplating adding them but since they had no image, i hesitated. but yes, i really should add them. — Game widow (talk) 07:20, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Bot attack[]

Please, delete this blog item. Maybe spam attack will be stop. SMiki5five (talk) 13:03, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Necromancy[]

Do you know something about "Hanmarvyn's Blue Dream"? I found it in the string files when I looked for informations about the necromantic ritual Dethmold did with Auckes in Chapter 2. I'm not sure, if Hanmarvyn's name appears in fact in the game... If yes, could you add the infos to the wiki?»»Dove«« (talk) 20:58, 15 December 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, i have no information about that. I'll look, but it's news to me. — Game widow (talk) 14:41, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
Here are the lines Dethmold talks to Geralt:
Hanmarvyn's Blue Dream is a spell that grants you a glimpse of a dead man's memories. You'll see, feel and taste what the killer experienced in his life. [...] You're a mutant, like this killer. An ordinary man would never survive Hanmarvyn's Blue Dream.
No word about Hanmarvyn himself. Maybe he was a mage like Alzur, doing forbidden experiments; an "invented" person by CDPR.
Imho at last the ritual should be listed in the Necromancy article (and the Gwent card "Blue Dream", formerly named "Hanmarvyn's Blue Dream").
»»Dove«« (talk) 15:32, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
Sure :) make it happen! — Game widow ( talk ) 15:59, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

Article "Proper Names in Translation"[]

As I told you before, I was in contact with Daerdin. I inserted the missing (and for the wiki interesting) chapters into the article, beginning from chapter "5.2 Personal names". Now I want you to ask to set the links and the bibliographic references as you already did it for the previous chapters. Would you do that for me, please? :) »»Dove«« (talk) 22:34, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

Of course :) — Game widow (talk) 22:35, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
hey! as i'm going through this document, i noticed that sections 3 and 4 are missing, or if they are not missing, the numbering of sections jumps from 2 to 5 — Game widow (talk) 00:23, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Hi, I left a "Note: chapter xy has been skipped..." line there. Maybe I should highlight it more...? »»Dove«« (talk) 08:50, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
